Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become an established star failed. Two record labels signed her, but dismissed her prior to having made any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title song was a fun and playful track that received little attention. I Kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity that is set to a gritty electronic-pop beat, made a bigger sensation a couple of months later. I Kissed a Girls was an immediate hit, however it quickly sparked controversies. Many critics argued that the track was a promotion of sexual relations between men and women, however others believed that the scene the song depicted was more appealing to fantasies of males. I Kissed a Girl became an international number-one single because of its mix of titillation with a polished melodic tune. It also helped her sell more albums, such as One of the Boys. Hot N Cold's sharp and bouncy second single was also extremely popular. The album that Perry created in large portion was sold to over 3 million people.
